Hi I am new here. I am pre-op looking for a surgeon in Mexico who does DS. My research has really scared and confused me. I have scheduled a date with dr. Arellano through his patient coordinator Michelle Welsh but now I am second guessing because of a forum on here that I found. I am now back to the search I guess and more confused and scared than ever. Any advice would be appreciated. I am so glad I found a place to learn from all the vets out there.

Sometimes second guessing is a good thing. The only people we recommend are Esquerra/Wilhelmy in Mexicali. And you don't need to pay a coordinator, they will take care of everything. Lots of people here used them and no one has anything bad to say. And Alma Mater Hospital is very good too!

I went to Dr. Esquerra and he is great. I was confused and scared too and it's so hard to figure out what to do But here is the thing, you are going to find a lot of people here who went to Dr. Esquerra and had a great experince. Here is a post where i talk about it - http://bariatricfacts.org/threads/march-2017-target-date.4858/page-3#post-74068

Others will chime in and say nice things too. Ask questions! We want to help.

Mexicali Bariatric Center is THE place you want. Equerra or Wilhelmy.

(Isn't Michele Walsh the predator for substandard mexican surgeons who trolled the forums for victims??)

Dr. Esquerra is great, in all aspects. Staff is good and hospital was good too! I highly recommend him. They pick you up at the airport and drop you off there, nothing for you to stress about (well except you are about to have surgery ) you are never left alone, they lead you everywhere, I felt very safe and secure. My sister did go with me but I flew alone and we met up at the airport in San Diego. I could have gone alone easily. No coordinator is needed AT ALL! Nina is a great coordinator. Good luck on your research, ask anything you want to.

Michelle Walsh has visited here under various aliases. Some of us "know her" from many years ago...before she got arrested for the drug thing at the border, back when her immediate family was suing her for taking their stuff and there was conversation about a warrant out for that situation.

Stay away from her...and, if you are short on time, start reading this thread around page 8 or 9:

Isn't Nina also a coordinator. This is why I'm confused, everyone says there is no need for a coordinator and Michelle is bad but every surgeon iv looked at uses a patient coordinator including Dr. Esquerra. I'm really looking into him now and I mostly see good things however, one lady on my Facebook group said he is totally unqualified because he did not really train under dr. Unsong but only held the tools and basically almost killed her brother? Also he isn't licensed as a bariatric surgeon just has a general surgery certification? Is that true? Naturally that freaked me out a little. Im feeling discouraged about Mexico at 'll now but there's no was I can afford it otherwise.

also that previous thread is how I found this group. I have been talking to her alot and have all but set a date. I saw that the post were from mostly 3 years ago. Couldn't Dr. Arellano have gotten experience in DS by now? I can't seem to find whole lot about him.

Nina is his office person, just like any doctors office has people at front desk, in office, etc. I'm sure they would verify his credentials and licenses if you asked.

I will do tjat. The website has her listed as the patient coordinator. I guess I'm just not understanding why Michelle has such a bad rap. I have not had that experience with her at all. She talks a little too much but is very informative on many of the same things you have all said like having the GB taken out at the same time as DS. She called me specifically to give me information on bypass because like I have seen on here the bypass is no longer the best option and sometimes just downright bad. I'm not defending her or anything i am just really confused now because this group has all made some seriously negative claims about Michelle but it could easily be a he said she said type of situation. I dont even care about the patient coordinator or whatever I just want to know what to look for to find the best DS dr. In Mexico because regardless of what everyone says, in reality anyone's opinion could be wrong or right but i need facts and I can't seem to find actual facts about either doctor.

What you will find here, are a number of people who have had successful surgeries with Dr. Esquerra. Why not reach out to them about their experiences?

There's a difference between office staff patient coordinator directly employed by a doctor to deal with patients who contact his office and someone who independently operates outside of the doctor's office to recruit patients for a fee. The latter is simply unnecessary.

Several of us have already shared our experiences, not sure what else Would makevLydia feel better. Thanks for helping on the coordinator thing, I didn't fully say what I meant to say.
