Sunday Weigh In (8/6/2017)

Yesterday was my 1-year post-op anniversary from RNY to DS. It was a rough year. I spent a month in the hospital with very serious post-op complications: sepsis, liver infection, pneumonia, and had a bounty of procedures and medications to treat the problems. I made it through and the recovery at home took several months. On July 18th, I had ventral hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction. What a year! I feel quite good and it is wonderful to be freed from the burden of my weight.

For year 2, my focus is on making a plan for body contouring/plastics. My numbers this week will show a tremendous weight loss but I believe this is actually due to losing weight during my recent hospital stay and recovering and the swollen tissues healing.

Ready? Here it is:

LW: 162
TW: 151

Ta-da! I am at 93% of the way to goal. I have lost a total of 118 pounds this past year. To get to a normal BMI I would need to weigh 140 but I'm pretty happy where I am right now - very happy.

YAY! Congrats! Sorry it's been a hard year, but wow, you made it. I got pretty sick in June and lost a bunch of weight and then bounced up 3 pounds, so you might bebouncy.

I had a great week. After being stalled for 8 weeks - a long, long 8 weeks - boom. The scale moved.

LW - 151
TW - 147 ( was 146 this week for two days)

Goal is 135. I'm close. Normal BMI is 141. My one year surgerversity is AUg 19th. I wanted to be at my goal weight by then, but I'm so happy. I'll get to my goal weight by Nov I figure.

Plastics is on the list to research now.

I've watched your progress and your complications all this year and I'm really thankful that you've shared so much of what you've gone through with us here. Much of what happened with you was happening while I was a post-op and learning about how things can become complicated was a wake-up call that a newbie with rosy-DS-colored-glasses needed to understand. I hate that you had so much difficulty and that you went through so much, but I am so happy to know that you're finally on the other side of all of that hardship. The tremendous weight loss certainly came at a price to you; regardless of that, you should be so proud of everything you've surpassed and all of your met goals along the way. Thank you for being so open and sharing your journey. You've really inspired me.

I would expect some bouncing as well. 146-147 is quite an accomplishment @galaxygrrl. Congratulations.

That is very sweet @writegirl, thank you.

Seeing a little movement on the scale again is exciting. The only thing I dislike about being this weight is that the loss is so much slower now that there isn't 200Lbs weighting in line to be lost.

Had a dip in some vitamin levels with some recent labs. First time ever in my life that my iron has been low. I used to donate the double red cells and still have high iron. Now it is low and I'm struggling with vitamin A right now too, and continuing the Vit D struggle. Adding a few extra vitamins into the routine and then will check the blood again and see how it goes.

I've lost 51 pounds!!! I'm not a fast loser, but I don't even care. I'll take a 2-3 lb loss per week and feel grateful for the incremental changes.
Isn't it amazing?

Do not be surprised if it slows down to about 5 lbs a month. Go look at mine: http://bariatricfacts.org/threads/my-weight-loss-by-month-as-a-lw.1104/

Oh yeah, the closer we get to goal, the slower it seems to go.
Glad you are working on your vitamins. Have you gotten with a hematologist yet to address your iron?

Ugh not good. I have the Grands this weekend and there has been lots of sugar but not so much I would gain 2.5 pounds of fat. Not working out so not muscles... water or a combo of fat and water? I do know I have not been eating enough protein, not taking my vitamins consistently, and not drinking enough water. Time to buckle under!

Have a great week all.

OMG, take your Vitamins. Please. Before surgery, I read stories of people who felt fine and just stopped taking vitmans and got really sick and almost died. It scared me.

I had a few weeks of being able to eat larger portions and I was slightly worried but now it's gone back to the way it was, feeling full quicker, weird how that is.

Recovered from the five grands being here, my little Cairn terrier, Tiger, (my little brother) who came to live with us after Dad's death in 2015 crossed the rainbow bridge Monday in my arms. He was 13 1/2 with numerous health issues (on insulin with suspected Cushings) then he developed collapsed trachea and pancreatitis and fluid on lungs, I could go on . Very sad day here, it was like losing Dad again because Tiger was so much like Dad, sweetly loving and bossy at the same time! He loved the grandkids so I know he got lots of extra attention and belly rubs from them.

Now getting ready for my brother to drive in this evening from Denver and then my niece and her hubby and daughter will fly into Nashville on Thursday morning.

Last night our little jack/chi mix, Trixie, started having seizures and had them all through the night. The diazepam suppositories the vet prescribes didn't do a thing! She has calmed down now but still weird. She's on phenobarbital for them and hadn't had any in several months, but made up for it last night. I wonder what the week holds in store!?!? Back to dusting and the vacuum awaits me!

Haven't actually seen the hemotokogist yet. 4 months out for appointments with him. The iron was low for the first time in my labs. Because of my history and family history with iron accumulation, I was not supplementing iron at all. So we are trying a supplement and rechecking in monthly as I await the appointment. Hopefully the supplement will get me back into normal and will keep me there, and the hemo will have nothing exciting to offer. We shall see.

For A and D I've been taking biotech ordered through amazon, and my last bottle had different markings on the capsules, which seems weird. Don't know if anyone else has seen that or if I should call/be concerned about counterfeit.

I had to put down my 14-year-old dog this week too. I also held him in my arms while he passed. Sad days this week. My dog was happy and feeling good up until the day he died - -something I am very thankful for. I know the crying will all start again when I get the call to pick up his ashes. It sounds like you gave Tiger a great life after your father passed. Best wishes for peace this week as you juggle visitors and keep an eye on Trixie for seizures.
