Question on VSG to DS weight loss

So I'm told that revision from VSG to DS has a slower weight loss expectancy. Can people who have had this type of revision tell me how slow it's been for you? I'm just curious on what to expect. I know this is only a tool and I have to do my part. I'm just nervous that I won't lose enough and still be way overweight with this second (step) surgery. I currently need to lose just under 100 pounds to reach my goal weight. I lost 60 with VSG really fast but about 7 months out I started regaining all but 10 pounds back over the last two years. Thank you in advance for your responses :)

I lost it just as quickly after my VSG to DS conversion, but I don't think I lost quite as much as I would have with a virgin DS and the weight loss stopped at about 9 months out. After regain, I only lost about 30 with the VSG. I then lost an additional 65 with the DS which leaves me about 30 pounds from my goal weight. That's still about 70% of EWL total between the two which is the stat for DS alone though. I suspect you will do fine with the DS. You will definitely lose a lot more. Maybe not all you want, but most of it.

Here's the reality of the VSG. It is just another diet with a smaller stomach. Surgeons and their clinics are pimping this surgery like crazy and there is a window of opportunity to lose in the beginning but in the end, it is restrictive only and for most works no better than any other diet. It's cruel in my opinion, to offer you a taste of normal when they know damn well it's usually not sustainable. And when it fails, they can always blame the patient. After all they are expecting all their weight loss attempts to fail! Asshats!

The surgery failed you. Obesity is a disease, not a character flaw.

Now I will get off my soapbox and actually answer your question. Yes, VSG to DS people can lose slower than virgin DS. But many do achieve their goals. A 100 pound loss is a reasonable expectation on your part. What I as a patient would be doing is lobbying for the most malabsorbtion possible. The more malabsorbtion you have, the easier it is to lose the weight and keep it off. And don't let anyone sell you a sort of kind of DS like the SADI/Loop, etc. Hold out for the real thing.

Thank you for the responses. I mentioned that to Dr. Simper and he said they don't even do the SADI/Loop, ect. He said my channel will be 100cm and thinks I'll meet my goals. It's just so frustrating to go through surgery and work your ass off and then have to all come back on. UGH.....

You're going to lose weight with the DS. Even if you eat like crap. Of course you'll lose more and be healthier if you eat well, but it's virtually impossible not to lose weight with the DS. I know. I'm a compulsive overeater.

Not your fault that they scammed you.

I had the revision from VSG to DS 18 weeks ago and have lost 49 lbs. I have 51 lbs to go. I am so happy I had the revision. It was the best decision, I just wish I had done it years ago.

This first part speaks soo much to me! I'm feeling better now. I've always had the thought and feeling with all of my weight regain after VSG was my fault....that I had failed the surgery / tool. Even my surgeon for the DS has said he gets a lot of revision patients who had VSG / WLS with my original surgeon. He's even said it's common for many to regain weight from VSG long term.
