I am putting together a list, and I want everyone to help with it. It will be used to create/update the vetted surgeons list.

What I need from you:
  • Surgeon's name (include all DS surgeons in the practice)
  • Surgeon's email address
We will get the rest of the information directly from the surgeon himself.

Please add to this thread.

Please post the link to this post on all your other groups, especially FaceBook.

Thanks!

My surgeon has gone on to the next life, but my second choice and my backup guy is Dr. David Greenbaum. https://physicianlocator.virtua.org/NavWeb/PhysicianSearch/Detail/186

It appears from a Google search that he and Dr. Samuel Wasser left Lourdes and went to Virtua, but nobody has updated their OH ads or the rest of their web presence. Dr. Wasser does not, himself, do the DS, but he is pro-DS "for the right people." I've never understood from him just who those people are, except Dr. G.'s patients. He is a skilled surgeon and a fine guy, but not a DS surgeon.

You will question Dr. G. and include any qualms about his revision issues in the new list if appropriate, I am sure, but I'll comment for readers of this thread that Dr. G. has two areas that I consider to be.....troublesome.

1. Dr. G. is selective and probably VERY conservative in his thoughts about RNY to DS revisions. He has certain criteria that he uses--and I always mess up the description, so call and ask him/his office--for weeding out certain RNY procedures for DS revision, preferring instead to do an ERNY. He has his reasons and I respect that. But if you are in the category of "ERNY," please get more opinions before you make up your mind.

2. His supplement advice SUCKS. His reasoning, which I respect, is that he needs to give evidence-based advice because he is engaged in the practice of medicine, and "our" advice about mega supplementation is minimally supported by the kinds of evidence that pass academic and professional inspection. As much as we love people like Vitalady and our own testimonials, he as a physician and scientist is held to a different standard.

He might truly BELIEVE that it's better to wait to see what deficiencies develop and then "treat" them, especially with his seemingly preferred method of surgical revision of the small intestine.....but beliefs are not evidence and are not "professional." I don't know what he "believes."

Smart Greenbaum DSers ignore his postop supplement advice. Those who follow it, get sick. I know several who have. One listened to me and got better. Others chose to believe him and got more surgery, and are not necessarily better.

Another up and coming DS surgeon is Dr. Alexander Onopchenko. http://www.atlanticare.org/index.ph...ur-surgical-team/alexander-onopchenko-md-facs

I don't know how many DS procedures he has done (it's probably several but under 100). I have corresponded with him in a couple different ways and have read his CV and professional publications. He's a fine professional and a fine guy. I would like to hope that he will continue to move forward with the DS.

I know several of his RNY and VSG patients at least casually, none of whom came to me via the WLS forums online. It was all unrelated 3d contacts. This tells me that he is serious about reaching out to MO people. Our phone and email conversations have confirmed that sense.

Mr Ameet Patel here in the UK does both NHS patients and private pay. No information is available on how to contact him for NHS but his private pay website is

http://www.obesity-surgery.co.uk

He does all types on WLS but I know several of his DS patients. He will only give someone a DS if he thinks they are smart enough to deal with it for life.

I don't know if you remember but a woman @sheila stillwell posted about 6 months ago about a doctor in the St Louis County area that did her DS. i am pretty sure she was a revIsion from a band. I have been checking and they have finally updated their web-site to include the DS and also revision surgery's. Wouldn't it be nice to have another surgeon in the mid-west on our list of surgeons. Dr. Scott did her DS and I have seen him years ago for repeated dilations after my VBG. Sheila gave you some statistics in another thread but I couldn't find it and I have accidently deleted her e-mails to me. I hope this info helps. If you are reading this Sheila I hope things are going great for you!
